It’s always wise to make sure you’re getting what you need from your doctor, whether it’s the first visit or the fiftieth. Here are some additional questions to consider. Does your doctor:

Prescribe medication that you can afford, such as generics?

Fit you in if you are really sick, despite a tight schedule?

Refer you to various resources (e.g., handouts, books, journals, Internet) to clarify information?

Refer you to an appropriate specialist when required?

Refer you to other support services or self-help groups?

Call when additional information or test results are obtained?

Give adequate consultation time?

Have hospital privileges at a respected medical institution?
